Description

A warm sandwich with creamy tuna salad and gooey cheese, grilled to perfection.


Ingredients

  • 1 can Canned Tuna, drained
  • 3 tablespoons Mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard
  • 1 stalk Celery, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons Sweet Pickle Relish
  • Salt and Black Pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup Cheese (Cheddar, Swiss, or Monterey Jack)
  • 2 slices Bread (sourdough, rye, or sturdy sandwich loaf)
  • Butter or Olive Oil, for grilling
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice (optional)


Instructions

  1. In a bowl, flake the tuna with a fork and add mayonnaise, Dijon, diced celery, relish, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of bread. Heat a skillet over medium heat and toast the bread, butter-side down, until golden.
  3. Flip the bread, spoon a generous layer of the tuna mix onto one slice, and top with cheese. Press the second slice of bread on top if making a closed sandwich.
  4. Return the sandwich to the skillet and cover with a lid until the cheese melts. Alternatively, broil the sandwiches on a baking sheet for 2 to 4 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
  5. Let the sandwich sit for a minute before cutting in half and serving warm.

Notes

To prevent sogginess, drain the tuna well and toast the bread first. Optional: add various toppings like pickles or serve with sides such as chips or salad.
