Description

Delightful sugar cookies with vibrant, colorful candy centers that create a stained glass effect.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup hard candies, crushed (like Jolly Ranchers)


Instructions

  1. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla, mixing well.
  2. Sift together flour and salt, then slowly add to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
  4. Crush hard candies into small pieces, about pea-sized or smaller.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out chilled dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut out shapes, making smaller cut-outs in the center.
  6. Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and fill the cut-outs with crushed candies.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden and candies are melted.
  8. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
