Description
A heartwarming dish featuring thinly sliced potatoes layered with rich cheese and a creamy base, cooked slowly to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium Yukon gold or russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups sharp or mild cheddar cheese, grated
- 2 cups heavy cream (or half-and-half)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt (to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (to taste)
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small dollops
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
Instructions
- Prep the Potatoes: Wash and peel your potatoes, then slice them thinly.
- Mix the Cream Base: In a bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika. Set aside.
- Layer It Up: Start with a layer of potatoes at the bottom of your slow cooker. Drizzle some of your cream mixture over the top, followed by a sprinkle of cheese. Repeat these layers until you finish everything off.
- Dot with Butter: Add small dollops of butter on top of the final layer for extra richness.
- Cook: Cover and cook on low for about 360-420 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
- Finish with Cheese: About 30 minutes before serving, sprinkle additional cheese on top and allow it to melt.
Notes
For best results, slice potatoes evenly and do not rush the cooking time. Experiment with different cheeses for unique flavors.
