Description

A creamy and spiced butter chicken dish that’s quick and easy to make, perfect for a family favorite meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs
  • 3 tablespoons butter (or ghee)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped finely
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced (or ginger paste)
  • 1 cup tomato puree (or crushed tomatoes)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or coconut milk)
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • Salt to taste


Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Toss in the chicken pieces and cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the same skillet and cook until soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and ginger and let cook for about a minute until fragrant.
  4. Add garam masala, cumin, coriander, and turmeric, stirring to coat the veggies in spices.
  5. Pour in the tomato puree and stir to combine. Let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  6. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and mix well.
  7. Add the heavy cream and simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes until thickened to your preference.
  8. Season with salt to taste, and serve.

Notes

For a vegetarian twist, substitute chicken with tofu. Serve with rice or naan for the best experience.
