- 7-8 medium apples (mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 pie crusts
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin pieces.
- In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until everything is well coated.
- Roll out the homemade crust on a lightly floured surface until it’s about 1/8 inch thick.
- Place one crust in a 9-inch pie pan, fill with the apple mixture, and dot with small pieces of butter. Cover with the second crust.
- Pinch the edges together to seal and cut a few slits in the top crust for ventilation.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly.
- Cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce for extra decadence. Choose the right mix of apples for the best flavor and use fresh spices if possible.
