Description
This delightful festive Christmas bread fills your home with the warm aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg, perfect for the holiday season.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup dried fruits (raisins, cranberries, etc.)
- ½ cup chopped nuts (walnuts, almonds, etc.)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, and spices until well combined.
- Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for about an hour or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, gently punch down the dough and fold in dried fruits and nuts. Give it a quick knead to incorporate them evenly.
- Shape the dough into a loaf, place it in a greased loaf pan, cover it, and allow it to rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Once the dough has risen, bake it for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. Slice and savor!
Notes
Use fresh yeast for best results and store leftover bread in an airtight container for up to three days or freeze it for later enjoyment.
