Description

A comforting classic featuring dried beef in a creamy white sauce, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup dried beef, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the chipped beef under cold water to reduce saltiness, then chop into bite-sized pieces.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and stir constantly until bubbly and golden.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk until there are no lumps. Continue stirring until the sauce thickens and bubbles gently.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Fold in the chopped beef and cook until heated through.
  5. Spoon the creamy mixture over toasted bread, biscuits, or rice to serve.

Notes

For added flavor, serve with sautéed vegetables or on top of mashed potatoes. Can be made ahead and reheated.
