Description

A beloved dessert that showcases a tender, flaky crust filled with juicy, spiced apples, perfect for family gatherings and fall festivities.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6-8 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1-2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or cornstarch for gluten-free)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  3. In a bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, flour, and salt. Stir well and let sit for 10 minutes.
  4. Roll out the crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
  5. Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot the top with small pieces of butter.
  6. Roll out another crust for the top, cut slits to allow steam to escape, and cover the pie.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes.
  8. Cool for at least an hour before slicing.

Notes

For a beautiful golden color, brush the crust with egg wash before baking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
