- 6-8 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- ¾ cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
- 1-2 teaspoons cinnamon
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or cornstarch for gluten-free)
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Peel, core, and slice the apples.
- In a bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, flour, and salt. Stir well and let sit for 10 minutes.
- Roll out the crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
- Pour the apple mixture into the crust and dot the top with small pieces of butter.
- Roll out another crust for the top, cut slits to allow steam to escape, and cover the pie.
- Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes.
- Cool for at least an hour before slicing.
Notes
For a beautiful golden color, brush the crust with egg wash before baking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
