Description
Delightful sugar cookies filled with melted hard candies, creating vibrant stained glass-like effects, perfect for holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup crushed hard candies (e.g., Jolly Ranchers or Life Savers)
Instructions
- Prepare your baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
- Cream together the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add the egg yolk and vanilla, and mix well.
- Gradually mix in the flour, baking powder, and salt until a dough forms. If too crumbly, add a teaspoon of water until it comes together.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 60 minutes.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Use cookie cutters to create shapes, then use a smaller cutter to cut out the centers.
- Fill each center with crushed hard candies.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Cool completely before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Chill the dough thoroughly to prevent spreading. Don’t overbake; keep an eye on the cookies as they bake quickly.
