Description

A comforting dessert that transforms stale bread into a delicious treat, soaked in a rich custard and topped with luscious caramel sauce.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups stale French bread or brioche, cut into cubes
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk or almond milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 1 cup granulated sugar or brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup caramel sauce, for drizzling


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut the stale bread into bite-sized cubes.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, and salt in a separate bowl until well combined.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes and gently fold to combine.
  5. Let the mixture sit for 15-30 minutes to soak.
  6. Drizzle some caramel sauce into the mixture and swirl gently.
  7. Transfer to a greased baking dish and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until golden brown and set in the center.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes and drizzle additional caramel sauce on top.
