Description

A cozy dessert featuring rich custard made with day-old bread, baked to perfection and drizzled with warm caramel sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups day-old French bread or brioche, torn into pieces
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk or half-and-half
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup caramel sauce, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Tear the bread into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Whisk the eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt together in a large bowl until smooth.
  4. Soak the torn bread in the egg mixture for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Melt butter and pour it into a greased baking dish.
  6. Fold the soaked bread mixture into the baking dish evenly.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes until set and golden on top.
  8. Drizzle warm caramel sauce over the pudding before serving.

Notes

For best results, use stale bread and allow it to soak longer for a creamier texture. Serve warm for maximum indulgence.
