- Day-old French bread or brioche
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk or half-and-half
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoons butter
- Caramel sauce for drizzling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Tear the bread into bite-sized pieces.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
- Add the torn bread to the egg mixture and let it soak for about 15-20 minutes.
- Melt some butter and pour it into a greased baking dish.
- Gently fold the soaked bread mixture into the baking dish.
- Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until it’s set and golden on top.
- Let it cool for a few minutes, then drizzle caramel sauce on top before serving.
Notes
Use stale bread for better absorption and consider adding nuts or chocolate chips for variation.
