Description

Indulge in this rich Turtle Chocolate Layer Cake featuring layers of moist chocolate cake, gooey caramel, and crunchy pecans, inspired by the classic turtle candies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 cups chocolate frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; whisk together.
  3. In another bowl, mix eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until well combined.
  4. Gradually add wet ingredients to dry, mixing until smooth.
  5. Divide batter between the prepared pans, smoothing the tops.
  6. Bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool the layers in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Layer cooled cakes with caramel sauce and sprinkle chopped pecans between layers.
  9. Frost the entire cake with chocolate frosting and drizzle caramel on top. Garnish with pecans if desired.

Notes

For a vegan option, substitute eggs with flax eggs and milk with almond milk.
