Description

A classic French dessert featuring layers of crispy puff pastry, luscious pastry cream, and fresh strawberries, making it a delightful ending to any meal.

Ingredients

  • Puff Pastry Sheets
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Vanilla Pastry Cream
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Whipped Cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Roll out puff pastry sheets on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thick and cut into 3×4 inch rectangles; score a border without cutting fully through.
  3. Bake the rectangles on a lined baking sheet for 15-20 minutes until golden and puffed; let cool completely.
  4. In a saucepan, heat milk, sugar, and a pinch of salt until boiling. Whisk egg yolks and cornstarch in a bowl, then slowly add the hot milk. Return to saucepan, cooking until thick; stir in vanilla extract. Cool and refrigerate.
  5. Layer a pastry rectangle, pastry cream, and sliced strawberries. Repeat with another rectangle, finishing with the last one on top.
  6. Dust with powdered sugar and optionally add whipped cream on top.

Notes

Let the puff pastry cool completely before layering to avoid melting the cream. Substitute strawberries with other fruits for variety.
