- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (around 100°F)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon dried herbs (basil, oregano, rosemary)
- Optional: cooked bacon, sautéed veggies, minced garlic
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Stir until well combined.
- Turn out the dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough. Roll it out and sprinkle your fillings (cheese, herbs) on top. Roll it up tightly and slice into individual rolls.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover again, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F and bake for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Let them cool slightly before serving warm.
Notes
Don’t rush the rises for a fluffy texture. Experiment with your favorite fillings for a personalized touch.
