Description
A delightful blend of zesty orange and cozy chai spices wrapped in a tender, buttery scone, perfect for pairing with your favorite beverage.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon ground chai spices (cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 3/4 cup cream or milk (buttermilk optional)
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts or dried fruit (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and chai spices until well combined.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the orange zest to infuse that lovely citrus fragrance throughout the dough.
- In another bowl, mix the cream (or milk) with any optional ingredients like nuts or dried fruit, then add this to your dry mix.
- Gently combine until just mixed – being careful not to overwork the dough.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick.
- Cut the circle into wedges or use cookie cutters for fun shapes.
- Place the scones on your prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Use cold butter for flaky texture and avoid overmixing to keep the scones tender.
