Description

Delicious apple crumb bars with a buttery, crumbly base and a softly spiced apple filling, perfect for a cozy treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, both sugars, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Add melted butter and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Reserve 1 cup of the mixture for topping and press the remainder into the bottom of a greased 9×9-inch baking pan.
  5. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples and toss with granulated sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  6. Spread the apple mixture over the crust.
  7. Sprinkle the reserved crumb topping over the apples.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
  9. Let cool for 15-20 minutes before cutting into squares.

Notes

Feel free to substitute butter with coconut oil or plant-based butter for a vegan option. Add nuts or caramel bits for extra flavor!
