Description

A heartwarming and custardy dessert made from stale bread soaked in a rich mixture of eggs, milk, sugar, and spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups stale bread (white, brioche, or croissants), cubed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (whole, almond, or oat)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Chop stale bread into 1-inch cubes.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  4. Add cubed bread to the egg mixture and ensure all pieces are soaked. Let sit for about 10 minutes.
  5. Grease a baking dish and pour in the bread mixture, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown, and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool before serving. Enjoy warm or cold!

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding raisins, nuts, or other spices.
