Description

A comforting French onion beef rice casserole, perfect for chilly evenings. This dish combines tender beef, savory French onion flavors, and fluffy rice, all baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 1 can French onion soup
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 cup Swiss or Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain excess fat, then sauté chopped onions until softened.
  3. Stir in the long-grain rice and French onion soup, mixing well.
  4. Pour in the beef broth, add garlic powder and black pepper. Stir until combined and remove from heat.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish and spread evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the top with shredded cheese.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, mix different types of cheese or add sautéed vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms.
