A rich and creamy dessert made from simple ingredients gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling, perfect for the holidays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups day-old challah or brioche, torn into pieces
  • 4 cups eggnog
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing
  • 1/2 cup raisins or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease the baking dish with butter.
  3. Tear the bread into bite-sized pieces.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together eggnog, eggs, sugar, and vanilla until combined.
  5. Mix the bread pieces into the custard mixture until well coated.
  6. Stir in nutmeg, cinnamon, and optional raisins or pecans.
  7. Pour the mixture into the greased dish and spread it out evenly.
  8. Bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown and set in the middle.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a drizzle of cream or a scoop of ice cream. A little dollop of whipped cream on top with extra nutmeg is delightful.
