- 6 cups day-old challah or brioche, torn into pieces
- 4 cups eggnog
- 4 large eggs
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing
- 1/2 cup raisins or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease the baking dish with butter.
- Tear the bread into bite-sized pieces.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggnog, eggs, sugar, and vanilla until combined.
- Mix the bread pieces into the custard mixture until well coated.
- Stir in nutmeg, cinnamon, and optional raisins or pecans.
- Pour the mixture into the greased dish and spread it out evenly.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown and set in the middle.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Serve warm with a drizzle of cream or a scoop of ice cream. A little dollop of whipped cream on top with extra nutmeg is delightful.
