- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Additional granulated sugar & colored sprinkles (optional for rolling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla, and almond extracts, mixing until fully blended.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll them into balls, optionally rolling in sugar or sprinkles.
- Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced about two inches apart.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes until lightly golden at the edges.
- Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with a 1:1 gluten-free blend. You can also experiment with flavors by adding lemon zest, cinnamon, or different extracts.
