Description

Delightfully crunchy sugar cookies that capture the warmth of nostalgia with a buttery flavor and satisfying texture.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Additional granulated sugar & colored sprinkles (optional for rolling)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla, and almond extracts, mixing until fully blended.
  5. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll them into balls, optionally rolling in sugar or sprinkles.
  7. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced about two inches apart.
  8. Bake for 9-11 minutes until lightly golden at the edges.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with a 1:1 gluten-free blend. You can also experiment with flavors by adding lemon zest, cinnamon, or different extracts.
