Description
A comforting dessert with sweet-tart blackberries topped with a buttery, flaky crust.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh blackberries (or frozen)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar (divided)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk (or almond/oat milk)
- 1/4 cup melted butter (or olive oil)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- If using fresh blackberries, rinse gently; if frozen, let them thaw.
- Sprinkle 1/4 cup of granulated sugar over the blackberries, toss to coat, and let sit.
- Mix the flour, baking powder, remaining sugar, and salt in another bowl. Gradually mix in the milk and melted butter until just combined.
- Pour the batter into a greased baking dish, then spoon the sweetened blackberries on top.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
Use ripe blackberries for the best flavor. Cover with foil if the topping browns too quickly.
