Description

A comforting dessert with sweet-tart blackberries topped with a buttery, flaky crust.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh blackberries (or frozen)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk (or almond/oat milk)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter (or olive oil)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. If using fresh blackberries, rinse gently; if frozen, let them thaw.
  3. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of granulated sugar over the blackberries, toss to coat, and let sit.
  4. Mix the flour, baking powder, remaining sugar, and salt in another bowl. Gradually mix in the milk and melted butter until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased baking dish, then spoon the sweetened blackberries on top.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Use ripe blackberries for the best flavor. Cover with foil if the topping browns too quickly.
