Description

A cozy and comforting dessert made with stale bread, creamy custard, and warm spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups stale bread (challah or brioche), cubed
  • 2 cups whole milk (or almond/oat milk)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for greasing)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup raisins or nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut the bread into bite-sized cubes, about one-inch pieces.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla.
  4. Fold the bread cubes into the custard mixture, ensuring every piece is soaked. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
  5. Grease a baking dish with butter and pour the mixture evenly into the dish.
  6. If desired, sprinkle raisins or nuts on top.
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Serve with caramel drizzle, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream.
