Description

A cozy, indulgent dessert made from stale bread, rich custard, and chocolate chips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups stale bread, cut into cubes
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast for about 10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  3. Add the toasted bread and chocolate chips to the custard mixture. Stir gently and let sit for about 10 minutes to soak.
  4. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes until set and golden brown.
  5. Let cool for a few minutes before serving with cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Use stale bread for best texture; you can prepare the mixture the night before and let it soak in the fridge.
