- 6 cups day-old challah or brioche bread, cubed
- 3 tart apples, such as Granny Smith, chopped
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 cup caramel sauce
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish and chop your bread into cubes.
- In a skillet, heat a little butter and sauté your chopped apples with some sugar and cinnamon until they are tender.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla until homogenous.
- Layer your bread cubes in the baking dish, pour the custard over them, ensuring they are soaked, and gently mix in the sautéed apples.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes or until the top is golden and a knife comes out clean.
- Douse with caramel sauce and let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Use stale bread for better absorption. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
