Description

A cozy one-pan wonder combining savory ground meat, tender cabbage, and rich tomato sauce for a delightful twist on traditional cabbage rolls.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, turkey, or chicken)
  • 1 head green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain rice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Italian herbs
  • Red pepper flakes, to taste
  • 2 cups water


Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat some olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until soft.
  2. Add the ground meat and cook until browned, breaking up big chunks.
  3. Stir in chopped cabbage and cook until slightly wilted, about 5 minutes.
  4. Pour in the tomato sauce and add uncooked rice. Mix well and add water according to rice package instructions.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, Italian herbs, and red pepper flakes as desired.
  6. Cover and let it simmer on low heat for 20-25 minutes until the rice is fluffy and the flavors meld together.
  7. Top with fresh herbs like parsley or basil before serving.

Notes

Use fresh, crisp cabbage for a tender texture. For a vegetarian version, substitute ground meat with lentils or chickpeas.
