Description

A nostalgic dessert made with stale bread soaked in rich custard, topped with a luscious vanilla sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups stale bread, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups whole milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • Optional spices: cinnamon and nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss stale bread cubes with melted butter until well coated.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Add spices if using.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes and stir gently until well soaked.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden and the custard is set.
  6. While baking, prepare the vanilla sauce by combining 1 cup milk, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1 tablespoon vanilla in a saucepan over low heat until warm and sugar dissolves.
  7. Serve warm bread pudding drizzled with vanilla sauce.

Notes

Let bread sit for a day or two to dry out for better soaking. Serve warm for the best experience.
