Description

A classic dessert that features fluffy vanilla cake filled with creamy custard and topped with rich chocolate ganache.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy (3-4 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients and milk until smooth.
  6. Pour batter into two greased round cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  7. While cakes bake, heat heavy cream in a saucepan and whisk in cornstarch and sugar until thickened into custard.
  8. Allow cakes to cool, then layer with custard and top with ganache made from melted chocolate and cream.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator before serving for best texture.

Notes

Serve chilled and pair with fresh berries or vanilla ice cream. Room temperature ingredients yield the best results.
