Description
A delightful twist on the traditional Black Forest cake, this cherry pie combines rich chocolate pastry with juicy cherries and a creamy filling.
Ingredients
Scale
- Pie Crust (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 cups Pitted Cherries (fresh or frozen)
- 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/4 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
- 1/4 cup Butter
- 1 cup Heavy Cream
- 1/4 cup Powdered Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- Make the Pie Crust: If you’re using a homemade crust, mix your flour, cocoa powder, and butter until crumbly. Add water gradually until it forms a dough. Chill for 30 minutes.
- Prepare the Cherry Filling: In a saucepan, combine your cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and a splash of water over medium heat. Cook until it thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Let it cool.
- Roll Out the Dough: After chilling, roll out your dough and fit it into a pie pan. Crimp the edges for a nice touch.
- Layer It Up: Pour your cooled cherry filling into the pie crust, ensuring even distribution.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
- Whip the Cream: While your pie cools, whip together heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Serve: Slice your pie and add whipped cream on top. Enjoy!
Notes
Use ripe cherries for the best flavor. You can also make the filling and crust a day in advance.
